kylo freeman

from a day job to tech founder with a netflix show

Kylo Freeman, Founder/CEO of For Them and Autostraddle

Kylo Freeman is a British entrepreneur who was raised in Liverpool. They moved to NYC, raised a lightning $2m pre seed round from the likes of LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman and recently secured Emma Corrin of The Crown as an investor. Winning Venture Studio acts in an Advisory capacity on media, partnerships and fundraising.

Alongside being a tech founder, Kylo is in several shows, including Netflix’s most watched show of 2023 - The Night Agent. The series emerged as the third-most-viewed debuting series on Netflix in its first four days, and within a week it was renewed for a second season.

As the transgender Founder and CEO of For Them and now also Autostraddle (audience of 1.2M per month) - Kylo’s journey has been anything but traditional.

Kylo Freeman was born in Liverpool to British and Jamaican parents, and didn’t see much first hand experience of being a tech founder growing up.

Post university and while working in London at major accounting firm PWC as an auditor, Kylo began taking acting classes at night. From here they auditioned and were offered a scholarship to the Stella Adler School of Acting, but there was a catch - the campus was in New York. Self made and with nothing to fall back on, Kylo decided to make the brave move to New York from London and start again.

In order to support themselves, Kylo started working their ‘day job’ as the CFO of startup and innovation hub, Prehype. It was while here that they learnt how to prototype ideas into tech products, build an audience and scale a venture.

Simultaneously, they were taking acting classes every night and began to realise their own gender expansive identity. Beginning their transition was only one part of the journey. Perhaps just as remarkable, was the ability of a new immigrant to start their own company in the US, pitch Mike Hirshland at Resolute Ventures, filling their $2million pre seed round in less than a week with an impressive cap table including the likes of Reid Hoffman, Cofounder of LinkedIn and Paypal. The idea was simple: build a queer wellness startup, serving gender expansive Gen Z - who in 2024 account for 30% of their age range.

With a list of extraordinary investors like Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin, Resolute Ventures, and Henrik Werdelin, Founder of Prehype and NYSE publicly listed company Bark, supporting them, we are excited to see what Kylo Freeman does next.a
